In conjunction with the exhibition The Spiral and the Square: Exercises in Translatability, SKMU is pleased to present Cao Guimarães’s feature-length film Ex Isto (2010). The film is loosely based on a hypothesis from the experimental novel Catatau (1975) by the Brazilian author Paulo Leminski: What would have happened if René Descartes had gone to Brazil with the Dutchman Moritz of Nassau in the 1600s?
We follow the philosopher on an exotic journey filled with discoveries, hallucinogenic herbs and, ultimately, a confrontation with his own doubts.
Cao Guimarães is a filmmaker and artists. He was born in 1965 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the town where he still lives and works.
The film lasts 86 minutes and can be seen at the following times:
Tuesday – Saturday: 11:30am, 1pm & 2:30pm
Sunday: 12:30pm & 2pm
See the film in the video room on the 1st floor
(entrance through The Museum’s Collection display).
