Atomic Tour – City of the Damned is a political science fiction story and an interpretation of the advancement of right wing populism in Norway since the 1930′s. The story traces the origin and development of the Progress Party, while relating the narrative about the Atomic Virus, about incidents involving radio active sand and about bizarre occurrences, presumably originating from an extra-terrestrial source. The tour takes it’s passengers around a number of viewpoint situated around Kristiansand, viewing the city from above, allowing for contemplation, photo opportunities and refreshments.
The narrative of Atomic Tour is written by the artist Annika Lundgren (b. 1964 in Sweden) as a response to the political situation in Norway in 2013. It was written specially for Kristiansand in relation to the SKMU exhibition The Beginning Is Always Today. Contemporary Feminist Art in Scandinavia.
Public Educational Tours:
Atomic Tour belongs to a series of performance works by Lundgren titled Public Educational Tours (1999-) introducing “potentially existing” individuals and events into the historical narrative of different places, thus questioning and re-writing the account of events past. Public Educational Tours comprises both biographical and thematic tours and aims to acknowledge perspectives that are generally marginalized and excluded in history writing but also to serve as a reminder of the fact that there is no such thing as an objective documentation.
