Collecting Then and Now for Later

15 February - 21 September

Reflecting over the passage of time lies at the core of each and every museum, and to manage and preserve an art collection is in many ways a battle against time. While we try to make artworks last as long as possible, we also want to tell and explore stories from the past. To purchase an artwork for the collection is about lifting something out of contemporary time in order to preserve it for the future.

In this exhibition we present a selection of contemporary artworks and craft that have been added to the museum’s collection in the last 5 years. The artworks range from textiles and ceramics to videos, photographs, drawings and other art forms. Many of these works address the theme of time, either as an inevitable process of disintegration, or by seeing history as offering an opportunity to create something new.
