Atsushi Fukui was born in 1966, in Aichi prefecture, Tokyo, Japan.
In 1989, he completed his B.A. in oil painting at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. A utopian world, always filled with a certain tranquillity, stretches across Fukui’s painted works. His style varies – sometimes he paints objects as an abstract rectangle, another time as a motif spinning an extremely concrete story. He has held four solo exhibitions at Tomio Koyama Gallery, Tokyo ( “bedroom paintings”, 2002, “teenage ghosts (and other scary stories)” 2004, “the eyes of the midnight sun” 2006 “I see in You” 2010).
Since his artwork graced the first samadhisound website launched in 2002, Fukui’s contributions to the label have continued to this day, with his artwork featuring on several of the label’s releases and publications. He has also contributed to the 3rd generation samadhisound site and davidsylvian.com.
In addition to his artwork for the ”Uncommon Deities” installation, Punkt and SKMU present works by Atsushi Fukui in the Paper Space on the 1st floor.
